Our Borrowed Water

Produced in partnership with the Grand River Dam Authority, Our Borrowed Water is a character-driven environmental film that examines the vital role of water in northeastern Oklahoma, focusing on the Grand Lake of the Cherokees and the Illinois River Watershed. In 2011, this region — dependent on clean water for commerce, recreation, and daily life — began experiencing dangerous outbreaks of blue-green algae.

Filmed over the course of a year, the project weaves together perspectives from experts and local voices to reveal the importance of protecting water resources. At once scientific and personal, the film underscores how water connects us all and why its stewardship is essential.
